Outpatient Clinic Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Please check in by 4:30 to see a doctor.
Urgent Care Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Emergency care available at local hospitals. Maps are available at the Health Center front door or online here.
The Health Center facilities and services are available to all undergraduate students taking six or more semester hours and to full-time graduate students - regardless of insurance coverage.
The Health Center will not provide excuses for class absences or missed assignments. Except in cases of severe illness or emergencies the students are strongly encouraged to visit the clinic during their free time, that is, not during a class or exam period. The student must assume responsibility for communicating directly with the professor in matters concerning missed classes, assignments or exams because of illness.
There is no charge to be seen by a Health Center doctor. Laboratory tests, immunizations, medications, and allergy injections are some of the services provided at low cost. Costs of services provided to students referred to other specialists or hospitals are the responsibility of the students. This includes transportation by ambulance, if required.
As an outpatient facility, the Health Center offers services similar to those found in a private practitioner's office. General medical care is provided on a walk-in basis by well-qualified physicians, nurses, and ancillary personnel. Surgical referrals, other medical consultations, and hospitalizations when needed or desired will be arranged by our staff physicians.
Treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and consultations concerning sexually related problems are available to both male and female students. These consultations and patient records are kept strictly confidential.
Routine gynecological services are available by appointment for female students. Some of the services offered are Pap smears, breast examinations, testing for pregnancy, management of sexually transmitted diseases, prescriptions, and contraceptive advice. For more information, see our Gynecological website.
There is the convenience of an independent pharmacy within the Health Center. Medications may be paid for in cash at the time of the visit or billed on the student's account at the business office. Students who have prescription insurance should present their co-pay cards to the pharmacist at the time they sign in to see the doctor. A student may choose to have prescriptions filled by a local pharmacy.
Routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis, throat and other cultures, and mononucleosis tests are performed at the Health Center. Specialized tests are performed at an independent referral laboratory. Lab tests may be charged to the student's account if desired.
X-rays are not performed at the Health Center but are sent to a nearby radiology facility. The charges may be billed to the student's account.
As an out-patient facility, the Health Center provides services similar to those found in a private practitioner's office. Most minor emergencies can be treated at the Health Center. However, if the Health Center is closed or the student is off campus, then the student should go or be taken directly to the emergency room of a general hospital. Emergencies occurring after outpatient clinic hours that require x-rays, laboratory, surgical, or other evaluation may be referred to the emergency room of a general hospital. The costs of ambulances, emergency room services and hospitalization at other facilities are the responsibility of the students.

Psychological and psychiatric services are provided by professional staff members on a short-term basis to help students cope with personal concerns; e.g. resolving interpersonal conflicts, managing stress, coping with loneliness, and handling feelings of depression, anxiety and other emotional crises. Students requiring long-term care will be referred to professionals off campus.

All undergraduate students carrying nine or more semester hours are REQUIRED to have health and accident insurance coverage. That coverage can be either the plan offered by the University or through family/individual plans. Families with an HMO should inquire of their insurance if the coverage extends to the TCU doctors/pharmacy. All students should carry insurance and/or prescription cards at all times.
Student health insurance offered by TCU is The Aetna Student Health Group Insurance, administered by the Aetna Claims Administrators, Inc. The insurance is underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company. The student insurance provides coverage for illnesses and injuries that occur on and off campus and includes special cost-saving features to keep the coverage as affordable as possible.
